SURREY – Indo-Canadian filmmaker Dalj Brar’s boxing drama Dil Rakh–Gloves Of Kin hit Amazon Prime in Canada in January and can be seen on the pay-per-view service.

The film is about an ex-boxer who after spending twenty years in prison, attempts to reconcile with his estranged son while they battle racism in a small BC town.

Brar plays the ex-boxer father Sukh Sidhu, who yearns to mend the shattered bond with his estranged son, Dayton, who has grown up without him amidst the suffocating grip of racism in their small town.

Struggling to reintegrate quietly into society, Sukh finds himself facing hostility from a corrupt sheriff and shady characters from the past, leaving both him and Dayton in a constant struggle for survival. Disheartened, Sukh realizes that despite the passage of time, racism and discrimination still plague their community.

As they confront this adversity and uncover their past together, they must decide whether to stand and fight or succumb to despair in a world where fighting may be the only option for both the father and son.

“Through Dil Rakh, I aspire to unmask the perpetuation of discriminatory ideologies from one generation to another, seeping into impressionable minds with no counterbalance. Understand, Dil Rakh isn’t a solution to racism; it’s a snapshot of lives grappling with the same battles that once plagued their forebears. Racism persists, evolving with time, victories and defeats etched into its history,” Brar said.

Dil Rakh: Gloves of Kin was nominated for two Leo Awards including Dalj Brar for Best Lead Actor in a Motion Picture and Nicolas Orska for Best Editing in a Motion Picture. The film won the Best BC Film Award at the Sundar Prize Film Festival.

Brar, who also serves as writer-director-producer of Dil Rakh, is a Vancouver-based multi-hyphenate with 20 plus years in the film industry. He started as a background performer and now excels as an actor, writer, director, and producer.

“Born in India and raised in a quiet Canadian town in Northern British Columbia of under 10,000, I could never have imagined I would be in the film industry let alone have produced a feature film with worldwide distribution…. but I did,” Brar said.

“Although I escaped bullying, I witnessed its impact on those less fortunate, etching a vivid image of minority adolescence in my memory. These experiences ignited the spark for Dil Rakh, a tale where boxing replaces hockey as the medium for my narrative.”

Armed with a Bachelor of Science from The University of British Columbia, Dalj has appeared in over 40 films, written and directed 3 shorts, and produced 8 more. His first feature film ‘The Evil in Us’ was signed by Raven Banner Entertainment, securing worldwide sales and distribution in Canada. He is known for producing high-quality and entertaining films that appeal to a global audience.

Dil Rakh: Gloves of Kin was released last November by Amazon and Tubi in the USA, UK, and Australia and the Canadian release followed on January 18, 2025.
