Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) is back for the summer under the moonlit skies of Stanley Park to entertain and magically transport viewers to wondrous worlds of classics such as this year’s Disney’s The Little Mermaid and Sister Act.

We attended the recent performance of The Little Mermaid (7:30 pm start time with 8 pm curtain call), and it was an absolutely magical treat with a great ensemble of talented performers bringing the musical to life.

Based on Disney’s beloved animated classic The Little Mermaid. Tells the story of Ariel, a spirited young mermaid who longs to explore the world beyond the sea. After rescuing Prince Eric from a shipwreck, Ariel makes a dangerous deal with the sea witch Ursula, giving up her voice in exchange for the chance to become human. 

With the help of her devoted friends Flounder, Sebastian, and Scuttle, Ariel must win Eric’s love and secure true love’s kiss before Ursula’s spell becomes permanent. Along the way, Ariel discovers the courage to follow her dreams and live the life she truly wants.

The themes of following your dreams, independence and growing up, and friendship and loyalty present in this story are what make it an entertaining and magical musical journey. It’s a great story that reminds us that pursuing our dreams requires wisdom and that we should listen to those who care about us, consider the consequences of our choices, and never give up our ability to speak for ourselves. 

And as summer is coming to an end it means that the TUTS season comes to an end, we would like to thank everyone involved for all the hard work that goes into this and to see what’s in store next year.
