WHISTLER – In another brazen gangland shooting, notorious Brothers Keeper gangster Meninder Dhaliwal, whose brother Harb Dhaliwal was shot in downtown last year, was gunned down Sunday in broad daylight in Whistler village along with his friend Satindra “Sat” Gill who was reportedly celebrating his birthday over the weekend.

On July 24, at around 12:19 p.m., the Sea-to-Sky Whistler RCMP responded to multiple calls of two men being shot at the Sundial Boutique Hotel, located in the 4300 block of Sundial Crescent, Whistler, B.C.

Police said one of the victims died on scene, while the other died as a result of injuries, a short time later after being transported to hospital.

As a result of the dynamic response and rapid evidence collection by officers, Sea-to-Sky RCMP were able to locate and apprehend multiple individuals. A burning vehicle believed to be associated to the shooting was located in the 3300 block of Ptarmigan Place, in Whistler, BC.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken conduct of the investigation and is working closely with the Sea-to-Sky RCMP, the RCMP Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS), the B.C. Coroners Service and the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia (CFSEU-BC) to gather evidence.

IHIT said both Gill and Dhaliwal were known to police. In fact, it was Meninder Dhaliwal who chased down his brother Harb’s killer in downtown Vancouver and stabbed him several times before he was arrested by police.

The shooting is believed to have been a targeted shooting, in relation to the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict.  IHIT is asking anyone who was in either area throughout the morning, or any associates of Gill or Dhaliwal to come forward.

“We believe this to be a targeted incident. Though this was a brazen daytime shooting in a busy village, there is not believed to be any further risk to the public, thanks to the quick response of the Sea-to-Sky RCMP members” says Sergeant Timothy Pierotti of IHIT.  “Anyone who was in the area of Sundial Crescent or Blueberry Drive, where the burning vehicle was located, between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. with dash camera footage is asked to contact IHIT immediately.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.

Police confirmed that several people have been arrested after the fatal shooting.

Gruesome video of Dhaliwal and Gill lying face down in pools of blood began circulating shortly after the midday shooting. Also circulating were shots of a vehicle being pulled over by police near Squamish.

Scott Cargo, an employee at nearby Fanatyk Co. Ski and Cycle, told Postmedia he was standing outside the store at around noon when he heard gunshots.

“It was like 10 shots, rapid fire. I lived in Kelowna for 30 years, I’ve heard gunshots before,” he told Postmedia. “Then this 10-year-old kid comes running by our store and says `there’s guys shooting down there’ and he kept on running. I said, ‘You can come in.’ But he just kept on going.”

The Brothers Keepers have been locked in a violent conflict with the United Nations gang and some Red Scorpions over the last several years. Murders of members and associates of one group are often followed within days or weeks by a retaliatory hit.
