SURREY – Another shooting related to ongoing gang war or as police describe it as lower mainland gang conflict has left two people seriously injured.

Surrey RCMP said Wednesday morning that they are investigating a shooting in the Fraser Heights area that sent two people to hospital.

On February 8 at 11:30 pm, Surrey RCMP responded to a report of shots fired in the area of 16800-block of 104 Avenue. A male and a female were located in a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to hospital, the female in serious condition, the male with life-threatening injuries.

Initial indications are that the shooting is related to the Lower Mainland Gang Conflict. Surrey RCMP Serious Crime Unit has taken conduct of the investigation and is being supported by partner agencies including CFSEU-BC. Due to the life-threatening injuries of one of victims, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has also been engaged.

Current road closures related to this investigation include the intersection of 104 Avenue / 168 Street in all directions, as well as 104 Avenue in both directions between 167 Street and 168 Street. The closures remain in effect for an undetermined amount of time while investigators continue to collect evidence.

“We understand that there is concern within our community regarding the ongoing violence,” says Surrey RCMP Media Relations Officer Cst. Sarbjit K. Sangha. “Surrey RCMP Gang Enforcement Team (SGET) along with CFSEU-BC are working day and night to gather intelligence and target those that pose the highest risk to our community.”

The scene was still behind police tape Wednesday morning. Dozens of officers, including members of the gang enforcement team, swarmed the area surrounding the CO-OP gas station.

They appeared to focus on a blue sedan which came to a stop just outside the driveway of the gas bar.

The vehicle had significant body damage and at least one flat tire.

Investigators quickly covered the licence plates with tarps and the vehicle was later put underneath a forensics tent.

SGET has been deployed with an aggressive plan to target criminals who put the community at risk. This plan prioritizes those individuals who pose the highest risk to public safety because of their actions, affiliations, involvement with gangs, and drug trafficking in the province.

Since January 1, 2022, SGET has conducted:

•         45 establishment checks for the Inadmissible Patron Program (IPP) resulting in the ejection of 1 person associated to the Lower Mainland Gang Conflict (LMDGC)

•         53 Outlaw Motorcycle Gang clubhouse checks

•         79 curfew checks of LMDGC participants currently living in Surrey

•         25 drug investigations that resulted in seizure of fentanyl, cocaine, crack cocaine and meth.

Anyone with information, CCTV or dash cam video in the area of the shooting is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502, or Crime Stoppers, if they wish to remain anonymous, at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca.
