An Indo-Canadian woman stabbed to death in Surrey Wednesday night has been identified as Harpreet Kaur. But police have not yet identified the man arrested for her killing. The suspect, who was arrested on scene by Surrey RCMP officers, was released from custody on December 8.  IHIT investigators continue to gather evidence and are working to meet the charge approval threshold.

SURREY – An Indo-Canadian woman stabbed to death in Surrey Wednesday night has been identified as Harpreet Kaur. But police have not yet identified the man arrested for her killing.

On December 7 at 9:22 p.m. the Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing in the 12700-block of 66 Avenue, Surrey. Officers attended and found a 40-year old woman in medical distress, resulting from multiple stab wounds. Despite the best efforts of first responders, the woman succumbed to her injuries after being transported to a local hospital. 

A 40-year old man, known to the victim, was arrested at the scene and taken into police custody. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken conduct of the investigation and continues to work closely with the Surrey RCMP.

Investigators are now identifying the victim as 40-year old Harpreet Kaur of Surrey, in the hopes of furthering their investigation.

The suspect, who was arrested on scene by Surrey RCMP officers, was released from custody on December 8.  IHIT investigators continue to gather evidence and are working to meet the charge approval threshold.

 “Our investigators have been working non-stop,” says Sgt. Timothy Pierotti of IHIT.  “These incidents have a significant impact, not only on the family and friends of the victim, but the entire community. Surrey RCMP’s Victim Services has been engaged and is available to anyone in need of assistance.”
