Extortion related shootings continue in the Surrey area as the latest one targets a mansion in White Rock. WHITE ROCK – Extortion related shootings continue in the Surrey area as the latest one targets a mansion in White Rock

The individuals who own the house were not identified but White Rock RCMP said Friday it is investigating a shooting that occurred early Wednesday morning and requesting anyone with information contact police.

On August 27, White Rock RCMP received a delayed report of shots fired at a residence located in the 15500-block of Pacific Avenue. Upon arrival, police located evidence consistent with a shooting. No injuries were reported.

The Lower Mainland Integrated Forensic Identification Services was called out and attended to process the scene.

Through canvassing police determined that the shooting occurred in the early morning hours of August 27, between 3:15 a.m. and 3:30 a.m.  Investigators are conducting additional canvassing for video surveillance and speaking with witnesses.

Based on initial information this believed to be a targeted incident related to extortion. White Rock RCMP is liaising with investigators from the Lower Mainland Joint Force Operation (JFO) as well as the RCMP National Coordination and Support Team, to determine if there is any nexus to other ongoing investigations.

In recent months, numerous South Asian-Indo-Canadian businesses and individuals have been the target of shootings, include dozens of incidents in Surrey with high profile repeated shots fired at Bollywood comedian Kapil Sharma owned Kap’s Café on 82 and near Scott Road.

Some owners have received chilling phone calls demanding they pay exorbitant sums, then been threatened with gun violence or arson.

The RCMP announced the arrests of two suspects last month but nothing much has come out of it as criminals continue to shoot up businesses in the Surrey area.

The extortion incidents, which began in 2023, have prompted the creation of local and national police task forces, changes to the way Crime Stoppers accepts tips and calls for the federal government to designate an Indian gang as a terrorist organization.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, may have dashcam or security video from the area between 3:15 a.m. to 3:30 a.m., to contact White Rock RCMP at (778)545-4800.
