An Indo-Canadian man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2021 stabbing in Whistler. On July 16, 2024, Jhooty appeared in North Vancouver Provincial Court where he pled guilty to manslaughter. The sentencing hearing will be scheduled in the near future.

NORTH VANCOUVER – An Indo-Canadian man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2021 stabbing in Whistler.

Dedaar Jhooty appeared in North Vancouver Provincial Court and pled guilty to manslaughter in a 2021 stabbing in Whistler Village.

On August 14, 2021, Sea to Sky RCMP were called to investigate an altercation that happened near Whistler Village. The victim was waiting for a taxicab with a friend. A verbal altercation ensued between the victim, the friend, and another group of males. The altercation escalated and the victim was stabbed. 

The victim was transported to hospital where they succumbed to their injuries. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took conduct of the investigation.

Following an investigation, Dedaar Jhooty was identified and on June 23, 2022, was arrested and charged with manslaughter.

On July 16, 2024, Jhooty appeared in North Vancouver Provincial Court where he pled guilty to manslaughter. The sentencing hearing will be scheduled in the near future.

IHIT said it is appreciative of the assistance provided by the Whistler RCMP and the Sea to Sky General Investigation Section (GIS). Through strong partnerships with the Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS) and National Forensic Laboratory Service (NFLS), IHIT was able to collect key evidence.
