For one Surrey family, the new Year has begun on a tragic note as one person has died in a fatal house fire early new year’s day. At approximately 6:44 a.m. this morning Surrey RCMP received a report from emergency services of a house fire in the 14300-block of 26 Avenue. Upon police attendance, the residence was fully engulfed and was being contained by fire crews on scene. Four occupants managed to escape the blaze and are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. A fifth occupant was located deceased inside of the residence.

SURREY – For one Surrey family, the new year has begun on a tragic note as one person has died in a fatal house fire early new year’s day.

Surrey RCMP was on the scene following a report of a house fire in the 14300-block of 26 Avenue in Surrey.

At approximately 6:44 a.m. this morning Surrey RCMP received a report from emergency services of a house fire in the 14300-block of 26 Avenue.

Upon police attendance, the residence was fully engulfed and was being contained by fire crews on scene. 

Four occupants managed to escape the blaze and are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. A fifth occupant was located deceased inside of the residence.  The investigation is in the early stages and officers, in partnership with Surrey Fire are making efforts to determine the exact cause of the fire.

Officers are conducting neighbourhood canvassing and speaking with anyone who witnessed this to obtain further information. 144th Street is currently closed in both directions and travellers are asked to find alternate routes.
