SURREY – A man who arrived at a Surrey hospital with gunshot wounds isn’t expected to survive, police say.

Surrey RCMP said Friday that the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called out, after police were called to attend an area hospital for a report of a man suffering gunshot wounds.

Due to the serious nature of his injuries, the 24-year-old man is not expected to survive.

Initial information to police indicated the shooting took place in Whalley, though that has not yet been confirmed. At this time, investigators are still actively working to determine the exact location where the shooting occurred.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called and will be working in partnership with the Surrey RCMP. Investigators are working to identify a motive and are working with partners to determine if there are links to the drug trade and ongoing gang conflict.

Police are currently in the evidence gathering phase, no further information will be provided at this time. Further details will be handled by the IHIT Media Relations Officer.
