The Indian Consulate in downtown was a busy place on India’s Republic Day on Wednesday both inside and outside as over 100 protestors gathered in front of the Consulate to protest everything from human rights violations in India to demanding the release of Sikh political prisoners and of course no such protest is complete without the demand for Sikh homeland – Khalistan. While inside, the Consulate official including Consul General Mr. Manish joined members of the local Indo-Canadian community in celebrating India’s 73rd Republic day. The celebration began with the Flag Hoisting Ceremony, Singing of National Anthem and Reading of President of India’s Address to the Nation on the occasion of Republic Day by Consul General Manish. The program followed by greetings messages from Friends of India and Diaspora leaders and cultural dance performances by Diaspora youths.
