CHILLIWACK – A 54-year-old Indo-Canadian man from Chilliwack who was involved in a tractor collision with police following an anti-SOGI protest has been charged with three criminal counts. He was involved in multiple collisions with a BC Highway Patrol vehicle during a protest one year ago, police said.

The tractor driver Malkiat Singh “Bill” Shoker received serious injuries and a police officer received minor injuries as a result of the collision.

Shoker was driving down Highway 1 in his tractor en route to a protest against sexual orientation and gender identity in schools when he made contact with a police cruiser and flipped over.

On December 9, 2024, Malkiat Singh Bill Shoker was charged with the following:

Dangerous Operation of a conveyance section 320.13(1) of the Criminal Code;

Flight while pursued by a peace officer, section 320.17 of the Criminal Code;

Assaulting a police officer with a weapon, section 270.01(1) of the Criminal Code.

Shoker was arrested on December 18, 2024, and his next appearance will be in Surrey Provincial Court on January 16, 2025.

The incident kicked off on November 25, 2023 along Highway 1 as Shoker and others made their way from Chilliwack to Vancouver to attend the protest.

 A police chase culminated in Shoker striking a cruiser on the 176th St. off-ramp and losing control of the vehicle.

Shoker, who was taken to hospital after the accident, was later arrested.
