Last weekend was power packed with music, everyone from AR Rahman, Miss Pooja (free at Fusion Fest in Surrey) to Babbu Maan, but probably the best musical performance was at Bell Centre where Raga Echoes collective brought their unique fusion style to Bollywood hit songs that were heart wrenching, power pumping and an absolute delight for music lovers everywhere and even the Goras (White people) in the Crowd were on their feet and rocking to high energy reimagining of Dil Se and Chal Chayyie Chayyie. 

The seven piece band of very capable musicians and vocalists is led by Gurmukh Singh and supported vocally by Daksh Kubba and Rachel Viccaji but it’s really Singh carrying the majority of the singing load and he’s up to the challenge. 

Singh is an absolute brilliant singer and belts out even the more difficult songs, even by the great Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, with such ease and mastery that you have to bow to his greatness. 

Kubba and Viccaji also hold their own with their own brand of vocal stylings but it’s the backing musicians and their sound team that really makes the show sound and look like a high budget Bollywood musical extravaganza. 

Entertaining and visually stunning – Raga Echoes added Shiamak Vancouver’s ace dancers to the mix in the beautiful mix of music and performance art that takes the show to the next level. 

The audience Saturday night ate up every note of the performance and gave a standing ovation to a well deserving musical troop.
