SURREY – The newly rebranded Punjabi radio station called Swift (nothing to do with Taylor Swift) was shot up early Tuesday morning in the latest shooting in Surrey, which has seen a rash of extortion-related shootings of businesses including Bollywood star comedian Kapil Sharma’s Kap’s Café, which was forced to close down after the second shooting.

DESIBUZZCanada earlier reported that a house in South Surrey was also shot up which our sources told us was allegedly linked to someone at this Swift radio station.

Surrey Police Service (SPS) said Tuesday morning that officers are investigating an overnight shots fired incident that has resulted in property damage to a Surrey business. This business has been identified as Swift radio in Surrey in news reports.

At about 11:00 am on September 30, SPS Frontline officers responded to a call from staff at a business located in the 13000 block 76 Avenue, Surrey that they believed their business had been shot at sometime overnight. Upon arrival, SPS officers confirmed that damage to an exterior door had been caused by gun shots. There were no reports of any injuries.

Former MLA Jinny Sims, who hosts a show at the radio station, told Global News that staff arrived at the building on 76 Avenue in Surrey to find evidence of a shooting.

Sims says she is “shaken” by what happened and said that everyone has the right to have a safe workplace.

Sims told Global News she believes this shooting might be connected to the recent string of extortion attempts across Canada. She said Swift Radio’s most recent segment covered extortion cases and the Bishnoi Gang being declared a terrorist organization with guest SPS Chief Const. Norm Lipinski.

In July, Spice Radio sold it’s station and the new owner Kulwant Dhesi rebranded the station as Swift 1200 AM as previous owners Shushma Datt and her son Sudhir Datta were forced to step away from the station.

SPS Officers remain on scene and will be examining the area for physical and digital evidence, with the Provincial Extortion Task Force taking over the lead on the investigation.

Anyone with information about this incident or anyone who may have been in the area of 13000 block 76 Avenue between 8:00 pm on Monday, September 29 and 6:00 am on Tuesday, September 30 and witnessed the shots fired or suspicious activity is asked to contact the SPS non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 25-85681 (SP), the Surrey Extortion Tip Line at 236-485-5149, or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca.
