NORTH DELTA – A man on a ledge and apparently threatening to jump closed the Alex Fraser bridge Monday afternoon, causing traffic chaos.

Southbound lanes on Alex Fraser Bridge connecting Richmond and Delta have been closed due to a police incident on Monday early afternoon.

Delta Police posted on Twitter that the southbound side of the bridge is temporarily closed.

“Southbound Alex Fraser Bridge traffic is currently stopped while our officers are working to resolve an ongoing incident on the bridge,” reads the Twitter post.

There is no estimated time as to when the bridge will be opened.

Eastbound Highway 91 traffic is backed up past Nelson Road. Eastbound traffic on Highway 91A traffic is backed up onto Highway 91.

Southbound Highway 91A traffic is backed up over the Queensborough Bridge.

Hamilton neighbourhood is seeing huge traffic delays on Westminster Highway as well.

Motorists are being asked to avoid the area and expect major delays.
