Indo-American musician Ricky Kej won his third Grammy this year for his album Divine Tides. Born in North Carolina, Ricky has lived in Bengaluru since he was 8.

NEW YORK – Ricky Kej, an Indo-American musician, won his third Grammy for his album Divine Tides on Sunday in the Best Immersive Audio Album category. Kej’s third Grammy win comes after he received the prestigious trophy in 2022 in the Best New Age Album category and in 2015 for his album Winds of Samsara.

Kej shared his triumph with Stewart Copeland, the drummer of the iconic British rock band The Police.

Born in 1981 in North Carolina, Kej is half-Punjabi and half-Marwari. He studied at Bishop Cotton School in Bengaluru, where he has lived since he was 8. He later graduated from Oxford Dental College. However, he did not pursue a career in dentistry but opted for music instead.

He started his musical career as the keyboardist of the Bengaluru-based progressive rock band Angel Dust. As a self-taught musician, he has cited Pakistan’s Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and British vocalist Peter Gabriel as his inspirations.

Kenny composed music for various platforms, including over 3,500 radio and television jingles. His repertoire of work consists of 17 studio albums and four feature films, including the natural history documentary, Wild Karnataka, narrated by Sir David Attenborough.

Kej is the youngest person from India to have won a Grammy award, and only the 4th Indian to do so.
