SURREY – The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said the remains found in Richmond in February 2024 are that of Navdeep Kaur of Surrey, who was murdered.
IHIT took conduct of a missing person investigation from Surrey, B.C. that began in February.
On February 23, 28-year old Navdeep Kaur of Surrey, was reported missing by her family, to the Surrey RCMP. After an extensive investigation by the Surrey RCMP’s Missing Persons Unit, evidence was collected that led investigators to believe that Kaur may have been the result of criminality.
As a result, IHIT took conduct of the investigation and worked in close partnership with the Surrey RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS) and the BC Coroners Service.
On July 23, Richmond RCMP received a report of possible human remains located in the water where Williams Road meets the Fraser River. Upon police attendance, human remains were located. Richmond RCMP worked closely with BC Coroners Service to identify the remains and determine circumstances that led to their death.
In order to further the investigation, investigators are now identifying the human remains found in Richmond on July 23, as those of Navdeep Kaur. IHIT has continued to pursue a number of investigative avenues to determine the circumstances surrounding Kaur’s death.
“This is a tragic event and investigators continue to work on this very active investigation. We are releasing an update with the hope that someone who knows something about Ms. Kaur’s disappearance and homicide may come forward.” says Corporal Sukhi Dhesi of IHIT. “We’re asking anyone who has any information, to please call IHIT immediately.”
IHIT is asking anyone with information who has yet to speak with police, to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
