SURREY – Global Peace Alliance BC Society’s mission is to bring mutual understanding, respect and acceptance among all the diverse people of British Columbia.
Covid19 has exposed systemic racism, inequality, and economic struggle. The pandemic has severely impacted women through their work in care, and escalating violence in the home. As a society we must address the rise in unemployment, in food bank use, the increase in homelessness and mental illness.
The death of George Floyd, the attacks on Asians and the horrific discovery of 215 First Nations children’s graves all shock us to face the structural inequality, misogyny and racism in our society past and present. Through the arts we can express much of the pain, healing and action needed.
Global Peace’s educational and advocacy activities which promote respect and love for one another are even more vital now. Our literary (prose, poetry, drama) and visual arts (drawing, painting, photography, video, sculpting) contest engages all ages, divided into four age groups: 5-12 years, 13-17 years, 18-64 years, and 65 years or more.
