A former Indo-Canadian prison guard has been charged by the Coquitlam RCMP for breach of trust. In September 2022, the Coquitlam RCMP commenced a breach of trust investigation involving a former BC Correctional Officer Ramandeep Rai (nee: Bassi) employed at North Fraser Pretrial Centre in Port Coquitlam, BC. Contrary to what is being reported in the media, the Coquitlam RCMP clarified that charges against Rai are not related to the Rabih Alkhalil case.

COQUITLAM – Former Indo-Canadian prison guard has been charged by the Coquitlam RCMP for breach of trust.
In September 2022, the Coquitlam RCMP commenced a breach of trust investigation involving a former BC Correctional Officer Ramandeep Rai (nee: Bassi) employed at North Fraser Pretrial Centre in Port Coquitlam, BC.

On October 15, two charges of breach of trust by a public officer were approved by the BC Prosecution Service and laid against Rai of Abbotsford, BC. The first offence is alleged to have occurred between July 14, 2022, and September 29, 2022, and the second between September 11 and 29, 2022.
Rai made her first court appearance on Thursday, October 23.

Contrary to what is being reported in the media, the Coquitlam RCMP clarified that charges against Rai are not related to the Rabih Alkhalil case.
