MISSION – BC Liberal Leadership Candidate Ellis Ross is being endorsed by Ken Herar, City of Mission Councillor ahead of his community fundraiser in South Vancouver on Friday.
Herar believes Ross’ vision for uniting BC and broadening the BC Liberal Party is a winning combination for all British Columbians.
“Frankly, (Ellis Ross) is a breath of fresh air. The BC Liberal Party needs change, and a new voice that welcomes everyone in. We need to stop putting up barriers. Yesterday’s insider politics aren’t going to build a stronger BC Liberal party or a stronger BC,” says Herar.
“When we first met, I shared with Ellis (Ross) that I had considered running for BC Liberal leadership, but had decided to hold back this round.”
Herar continues, “Ellis actually encouraged me to run. He welcomed the additional competition and told me that he felt adding Indo-Canadian representation to the race, as well as another voice for change, would be beneficial to the BC Liberal party.”
In a recent interview, Ellis Ross shared his vision for building a ‘bigger tent’ BC Liberal Party. Speaking with Mo Amir on the Premiere episode of CHEK’s marquee “This is Vancolour” 7pm Sunday evening talk show, Ross stated that under his leadership the BC Liberal Party would “walk diversity” and “be inclusive” to a wide range of views.
“Ellis (Ross) gets that we need to start with mutual respect and focus on uniting British Columbians. Those are values that shape our community and which shaped my upbringing, and they’re values I know (Ellis Ross) and I share,” says Herar.
Herar is exploring the idea of participating in the BC Liberal nomination race for the seat of Abbotsford-Mission leading up to 2024.
“I have always been passionate about my community, and I want to continue to do more. If the timing is right, I would be proud to earn a spot on the BC Liberal team, led by Ellis Ross,” says Herar.
“The party needs to change if we want to earn back seats like Abbotsford-Mission. I know Ellis Ross is that change. When he came to Mission, I saw how Ellis connected with regular people. He’s authentic and he’s heartfelt. I know he can win this seat back for the BC Liberals,” Herar concludes.
Ellis Ross, former Chief Councillor for Haisla First Nation, is the BC Liberal MLA for Skeena. He is credited with bringing the $40-billion-dollar LNG Canada project to BC. Ross was inducted into the Order of British Columbia in 2014 and is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
Coun. Herar is encouraging others to learn about Ross at 6pm on December 3rd at the Fraserview Hall in Vancouver, where a Christmas themed fundraiser in support of Ross is being held.
