An alleged drunk driver has mowed down a woman pedestrian in the South Asian dominated Surrey-Newton area on Tuesday. The investigation is in the early stages and the cause of the collision has not yet been determined, however impaired driving is believed to be a contributing factor.

SURREY – An alleged drunk driver has mowed down a woman pedestrian in the South Asian dominated Surrey-Newton area on Tuesday. She is described as an Indian foreign student named Amanot alias Shweta, a 22-year-old who came to Canada from Punjab’s Kurali City.
Surrey RCMP said they are looking for witnesses in a fatal motor vehicle collision that claimed the life of a pedestrian in Newton.
On July 26, at approximately 11:59 p.m., Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a single vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in the 7400-block of 121A Street.
Upon arrival, police located a pedestrian with serious injuries who had been struck and pinned by a vehicle. With the assistance of bystanders, police were able to push the vehicle off the victim and began immediate first aid until BC Ambulance Service and Surrey Fire Service took over patient care. The female pedestrian was transported to hospital and later succumbed to her injuries.
Surrey RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) with assistance from the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS), are investigating the collision. The driver and passengers of the small grey SUV involved remained on scene.
