SURREY – Surrey Mayor Doug McCallum, aka Doug Paaji, has been charged with public mischief and with chances of getting re-elected next year already in negative territory, will he even run with his Safe Surrey slate next October’s municipal elections.

McCallum, who was charged earlier this year from an incident stemming from earlier this year where he claimed he was attacked and his foot was run over with a car, will have his first date in Surrey provincial court set for Jan. 25.

Opposition councilor and would-be Connect mayoral candidate Brenda Locke said the report of Special Prosecutor Fowler has delivered very disturbing and concerning allegations of Mischief against McCallum.

“This report is a damning indictment of behaviour that is completely unacceptable for a Mayor or any elected official for that matter,” Locke said in a press release.

“Mr. McCallum must immediately recuse himself as Mayor of the City of Surrey. Residents deserve better and to have confidence that their mayor is acting with honesty and integrity.

“Mr. McCallum must do the honourable thing and resign as Mayor of the City of Surrey and Chair of the Surrey Police Service effective immediately.”
