VANCOUVER – They got Chucky! A well known Indo-Canadian gangster Amarpreet Samra, aka “Chucky”, who recently appeared on a police list of most dangerous gangsters, was gunned down early Sunday morning outside the Fraserview Hall in South Vancouver where he was a wedding guest shortly before being killed.
Samra’s older brother Ravinder, who was also on the list Most Dangerous list, is said to have also attended the wedding but it is not known if he was targeted or was with his younger brother when he was shot.
Vancouver Police said Sunday they are investigating the homicide of a 28-year-old Samra, who was linked to the United Nations gang.
Police said multiple 9-1-1 callers reported one man had been shot outside a South Vancouver banquet hall near Fraser Street and South East Marine Drive at 1:30 a.m. Patrol officers performed CPR on the victim until paramedics arrived, but he died from his injuries.
Investigators believe this was a targeted shooting related to the ongoing gang conflict. The investigation remains ongoing.
Sources told DESIBUZZCanada that one suspect was arrested following the shooting but police have not confirmed any arrests.
One wedding guest told Postmedia that someone came back into the hall after the shooting and yelled at the DJ to turn off the music. The 50 to 60 guests remaining inside at the time then hid behind a partition at the back of the hall, not knowing if there was an active shooter nearby.
Another wedding guest said it sounded like “a machine-gun” was used.
As is the case with these gangland hits, the killer or killers, most likely from the rival Brothers Keepers group, left a burning vehicle that may be linked to the suspect or suspects, which was later found near the Surrey/Delta border.
Anyone with information that could assist investigators is asked to call the Vancouver Police Homicide Unit at 604-717-2500.
Both Samra and his older brother, Ravinder, are aligned with the UN gang, which has been involved in a decade-long conflict with rivals that now reaches across the province and beyond. The BK, Wolfpack alliance and Red Scorpion gang have all been at war with the UN.
Amarpreet Samra had a long history with the police. He and two associates were convicted of kidnapping and forcible confinement after they grabbed a man in October 2015 and extorted his family for money. After his release from jail in 2018, he had a confrontation with Richmond RCMP in which a loaded handgun was found in a bag he was carrying, reported Postmedia.
Amarpreet Samra is also believed to have been the intended target of a May 2021 shooting in North Delta that resulted in the slaying of correctional officer Bikramdeep Randhawa.
Randhawa was gunned down in the parking lot of a Walmart on Scott Road. Delta Police later confirmed he was a victim of mistaken identity. Postmedia sources said Samra lived near Randhawa at the time and drove a similar vehicle.
