An Indo-Canadian woman named Pooja was caught on video camera stealing candies from neighbours on Halloween night intended for kids trick-n-treating in Ontario. While stealing from one home, she also stole the Halloween lights as well, coming under harsh condemnation as she has allegedly done this in the past. The thief Pooja, who live in the Cornell locality of Markham, Ontario, also owns a gas station and many people believe the stolen candy may end being sold at her family business, which many netizens said should be boycotted for this criminal activity. In videos posted on social media, the same woman Pooja, who is dressed in a salwar kameez, is seen moving from house to house, stealing candies from bowls of treats set out for trick-or-treaters on Halloween. TORONTO – An Indo-Canadian woman named Pooja was caught on video camera stealing candies from neighbours on Halloween night intended for kids trick-n-treating in Ontario.

At one such home, the woman was seen even stealing decorative lights.

The video, which has since gone viral, has caused outrage online, with many calling the woman’s act ‘trick-or-steal’ and ‘trick-or-thief’. Many native Canadians also wondered what Halloween costume the woman was wearing.

Some also blamed Canada’s liberal immigration policies for the incident, saying migrants from India who are refusing to assimilate with local customs are ruining their traditions.

After the incident caused massive outrage on social media, Markham city councillor Andrew Keyes issued a statement, saying that the woman “suffers from a mental health disorder.” He said that the stolen items would be returned to the affected families.

“These events and the social media attention they have generated have caused the family an enormous amount of distress, and it would be very much appreciated if people could please tone down the rhetoric, stop posting and sharing these videos, and if you’re able, please remove any posts you may have distributed,” he said.

However, Keyes deleted his original post defending the woman after many called him out on social media.
