Brand-D-LogoSURREY – Newlyweds Remneet Sihota and Ranjot Deol of Surrey marked their nuptials by donating $5100 from their wedding to the BC Cancer Foundation to support cancer research in memory of Ranjot’s mother and Remneet’s grandmother.

“My mom wasn’t able to be a part of our wedding due to a tumour that rapidly spread and took her away from us,” said Ranjot. “We felt compelled to donate to support such a good cause and hope our contribution can help save someone’s life.”

The couple raised the money at their wedding by asking the guests to give the Shagan money (cash gifts), as a donation to the BC Cancer Foundation instead of giving the Shagan to them. On September 23, they invited Sue McCulloch, representative of the BC Cancer Foundation, to handout the cheque to the BC Cancer Foundation.

indo-newlyweds2"It is a very noble gesture and should serve as a great motivator for the young people especially the couples getting married," said Balwant Sanghera, Indo-Canadian community activist and relative of the newlyweds who co-ordinated the Shagan collection-donation effort.

"I would like to congratulate Remneet, Ranjot as well as the Sahota and Deol families for this wonderful act of generosity."

Maybe this  will become a wedding trend in the South Asian community to donate your Shagan to your favorite cause! May be but not everyone is as generous as this family.
